Safety

MemoPryl Side Effects and Safety: What to Know Before You Start

Quick answer

MemoPryl side effects are unknown as a product, because no trial has tested it and no warnings text is printed on any image we have. The six ingredient names, unconfirmed for your bottle, can cause stomach upset, headache and sleep changes. Two carry real medicine risks. Stay on prescribed medicine and check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

The short answer01

What are the side effects of MemoPryl?

No one can list the side effects of MemoPryl itself. No trial has tested the capsule, and no warnings text is printed on any bottle image we have.

What we can do is read the six names tied to it on a sibling pack: phosphatidylserine, ginkgo biloba leaf, N-acetyl L-carnitine, St. John's wort, brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) and L-glutamine. They are unconfirmed for the bottle you receive, and no amounts are printed. The bottle wins.

The effects below belong to the single ingredients as studied. A capsule that mixes them may behave differently. Most reports are mild, such as stomach upset or headache. A few are serious and involve other medicines.

Keep taking prescribed medicine.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before the first capsule, and show them the bottle. Do not stop or change a prescription on your own.

By ingredient02

Which ingredient could cause which side effect?

Each of the six names has its own list, and the lists overlap on stomach upset and headache. Only some carry serious risks.

The table shows what public sources report. It is not a promise that MemoPryl causes any of it, since the amounts are unknown.

Reported effects for the six names, by source (NCCIH, Ginkgo) (MSK, St. John's Wort) (StatPearls, Bacopa monnieri) (Cleveland Clinic, Phosphatidyl.) (NIH ODS, Carnitine) (MSK, Glutamine)
IngredientCommon effectsSerious or special
PhosphatidylserineStomach upset, gas, insomnia, headacheAsk first with other medicines
Ginkgo biloba leafHeadache, dizziness, nausea, skin reactionBleeding risk; seizures in people at risk
N-acetyl L-carnitineNausea and stomach upsetAsk first with blood thinners or seizures
St. John's wortHeadache, nausea, dry mouth, sleepiness, sun sensitivityWeakens many medicines; serotonin syndrome
Brahmi (bacopa)Nausea, cramps, loose stools, mild sleepinessThyroid and cholinergic drug cautions
L-glutamineSwelling, stomach symptoms, headacheRare liver and kidney reports

Each row has its own profile. Start with St. John's wort and ginkgo biloba, which carry the most risk.

Serious risks03

Is MemoPryl safe to take with other medicines or before surgery?

It may not be. Two of the six names carry well-known risks with medicines, and the warnings text is not printed on any image we have.

St. John's wort can weaken many medicines, including antidepressants, birth control pills, warfarin, transplant, seizure, heart and some HIV drugs (NCCIH, St. John's Wort safety). Taken with certain antidepressants, it can add to serotonin syndrome (MedlinePlus, Serotonin syndrome).

Ginkgo may raise bleeding risk, most of all with warfarin, aspirin and other blood thinners (NCCIH, Ginkgo) (FDA, Mixing Meds and Supplements). FDA says a clinician may ask you to stop supplements two to three weeks before a procedure (FDA, Mixing Meds and Supplements). MSK puts the St. John's wort stop at one week before surgery or chemotherapy (MSK, St. John's Wort).

Do not combine on your own.

Tell the surgeon, dentist and pharmacist about every capsule. Follow the stop date they give you. The full list sits in the medicine interaction guide.

Your check04

Who should check with a doctor before taking MemoPryl?

Check first if you take any medicine, are pregnant or nursing, are under 18, have a surgery date or live with a medical condition. MemoPryl is meant for adults 18 and over.

A yes to any question below means a call to your doctor or pharmacist before you start. It is a prompt to ask, not a diagnosis. NCCIH also says natural does not always mean safe (NCCIH, Using Supplements Wisely).

1. Are you on any prescription medicine, or under a doctor's care?
2. Are you pregnant, nursing or under 18?
3. Are you on an antidepressant, birth control pills, a blood thinner, or medicine for HIV, seizures, a transplant or the heart?
4. Is surgery or a dental procedure coming up, do you have a bleeding disorder, or do you take aspirin?
5. Do changes in memory or thinking worry you, in yourself or someone close?
Answer all fiveYour result appears here. It is a checklist, not medical advice.

When to stop05

When should I stop taking MemoPryl and call a doctor?

Stop the capsules and call a doctor if you notice a reaction that worries you. Call right away for serious signs. This is the advice FDA and NCCIH give for any supplement (NCCIH, Using Supplements Wisely) (FDA 101: Dietary Supplements).

FDA lists allergic reactions, heart symptoms, severe stomach problems, bleeding, jaundice and stroke-like symptoms as serious reactions (FDA, Report a Supplement Problem). Do not wait for them to pass.

  1. Stop the product

Put the bottle aside. Keep it, with the lot number.

  2. Call for help

Use your doctor, pharmacist or emergency services, based on how severe the signs are.

  3. Keep your prescriptions

Do not stop a prescribed medicine unless the prescriber says so.

  4. Report it

Send a report through FDA's Safety Reporting Portal at safetyreporting.hhs.gov.

The bottle06

What does the MemoPryl label say about safety?

The bottle images show the FDA statement and little else. The warnings, directions and Supplement Facts panel are not printed on any image we have.

Tap the numbered spots to see what each part of label A shows. Label B differs: it says Advanced Formula and 60 capsules, while label A says 30. Read the warnings on the bottle that reaches you.

Tap a number to see what that part of the label says.

  1. Heading

'COGNITIVE SUPPORT FORMULA*'. The asterisk refers to the FDA statement, which this image does not show.

  2. Name

MemoPryl, with a TM mark, in a panel edged in gold. This version prints no maker line.

  3. Network art

A faint sketch of nodes and links. It is decoration, not an ingredient list.

  4. Claims

'Supports Focus*', 'Optimized Memory*' and 'Improves Mental Clarity*', and each one carries the FDA asterisk.

  5. Product type

'DIETARY SUPPLEMENT'. It is not a drug.

  6. Count

'30 Capsules'. The other bottle image says 60.

Claims such as "Supports Focus*" carry an asterisk. It points to FDA's statement that it has not evaluated them (FDA, Structure/Function Claims).

Safer habits07

How can I lower my risk if I try MemoPryl?

Ask before you start, follow the bottle, and keep a short note of what you notice. Those three habits catch most problems early.

  • Show the bottle to a pharmacist and bring your medicine list.
  • Take only what the bottle directs. We give no dose.
  • Do not add other supplements at the same time, so a reaction is easier to trace.
  • Write the start date and any new symptom.
  • Keep the bottle out of the reach of children.

Memory worries deserve a visit to a doctor, not a trial of capsules. Read when to see a doctor about memory. FDA also reminds buyers that it does not approve supplements before sale (FDA, Using Dietary Supplements).

FAQ09

MemoPryl safety questions

Does MemoPryl cause headaches or stomach upset?

It might. Headache and stomach upset are reported for several of the six named ingredients. No trial has tested the capsule itself. Stop and call your doctor if symptoms bother you or do not pass.

Can MemoPryl cause insomnia or trouble sleeping?

Possibly. Phosphatidylserine lists insomnia, while St. John's wort and bacopa may cause sleepiness. Effects vary and no amounts are printed. Note any sleep change and tell your pharmacist.

Is MemoPryl safe for older adults?

No one can say it is safe for everyone. Older adults more often take medicines that clash with St. John's wort or ginkgo. Keep taking prescribed medicine and have a pharmacist review the bottle first.

Is MemoPryl okay during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

No. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not take St. John's wort, and the label we have seen offers no safety data. Ask your doctor about any supplement during pregnancy.

Is MemoPryl safe to take every day?

We cannot say. No directions or daily limit are printed on any image we have, and no long-term trial exists. Follow the bottle and ask your doctor about long-term use.

How do I report a MemoPryl side effect?

Stop using it, seek medical advice, then report through FDA's Safety Reporting Portal at safetyreporting.hhs.gov. You can also tell the order desk at +1 (302) 200-3480 with your order ID.

Does MemoPryl contain caffeine or stimulants?

None of the six names is a caffeine source, and the bottle images show no caffeine line. A Supplement Facts panel could still list other ingredients. Check yours, and note FDA's caffeine guidance for adults.
