What a Proprietary Blend Means on a Supplement Label
A proprietary blend supplement lists several ingredients under one blend name with a single total weight, so you cannot see how much of each is inside. That makes it hard to compare with studies or to check for interactions. Ask for the amounts, or pick a label that prints them.

What does a proprietary blend mean on a supplement label?
It is a group of ingredients listed together under a blend name, with one total weight for the whole group. The amount of each ingredient inside is not shown.
Ingredients are usually listed from most to least by weight, so the order gives a rough hint. It does not give a dose. Two products with the same ingredient names can hold very different amounts.
FDA says companies must still have evidence their products are safe and their label claims are truthful (NIH ODS, Supplements Need To Know), but it does not approve supplements before sale (FDA, Using Dietary Supplements).
Why do amounts matter?
Studies test specific amounts, and interactions can depend on how much you take. Without amounts you cannot compare your capsule with the research.
Here are the amounts some studies used. One trial gave soy phosphatidylserine at 100 or 300 mg a day for six months (Kato-Kataoka 2010, soy PS trial). The large ginkgo trial used 120 mg of extract twice a day (DeKosky 2008, GEM trial, JAMA). LiverTox gives a typical bacopa dose of 300 to 600 mg of extract a day (LiverTox, Bacopa monnieri).
The bars show amounts studied, not amounts recommended. They are not a dose for you.
How do I read a label with a blend?
Look for the blend name, the total weight, the ingredient order and any amounts for single ingredients outside the blend.
| What you see | What you can tell |
|---|---|
| Each ingredient with an amount | Compare with studies and check interactions |
| Blend name and total weight | Combined weight only; each share unknown |
| No panel at all | Nothing about amounts |
If the seller will not give amounts, take that as an answer. Ask a pharmacist before you buy.

The two bottle images we have print no Supplement Facts panel, so we cannot say whether MemoPryl uses a blend. No amounts are printed anywhere we have seen.
Six names are tied to it on a sibling pack: phosphatidylserine, ginkgo, N-acetyl L-carnitine, St. John's wort, bacopa and L-glutamine. They are unconfirmed for your bottle. The bottle you receive wins. Read it, and keep taking prescribed medicine until a clinician says otherwise.

FAQ01
Questions people ask about MemoPryl
Is a proprietary blend bad?
Not by itself. It just hides how much of each ingredient is inside, which makes dose and interaction checks harder. If you take medicine, ask a pharmacist about every ingredient in the blend.
Do ingredients in a blend appear in order of amount?
Usually, from most to least by weight, but check the label. The order hints at proportions without giving numbers, so it cannot tell you whether a capsule matches a studied dose.
How can I find out what is in my supplement blend?
Ask the seller for the amounts, read the whole bottle and show it to a pharmacist. If no amounts are given, treat the product as unverified and choose one that prints them.
