Memory Supplement Ingredients: Which Have Human Studies
Memory supplement ingredients with human studies include ginkgo, bacopa, phosphatidylserine and acetyl-L-carnitine, but the results are mixed and often small. Studies exist; strong proof does not. A trial in one group at one amount says little about a capsule with unlisted amounts, so check the bottle's panel.

Which memory supplement ingredients have human studies?
Four common ones have human trials: ginkgo, bacopa, phosphatidylserine and acetyl-L-carnitine. Having a study is not the same as having proof.
Most trials are small, short or run in older adults with a specific problem. NCCIH describes the evidence for most memory supplements as inconclusive, limited or inconsistent, and asks for larger, longer studies (NCCIH, Supplements and Cognition).
Read each result with three questions. Who was tested? What amount? What did the trial actually measure?
What did the trials find for each ingredient?
The findings are mostly modest or negative. The plain version follows.
| Ingredient | What was tested | What it found |
|---|---|---|
| Ginkgo | 3,069 adults aged 75 or older, 120 mg twice a day | Dementia and Alzheimer's rates were no lower than on placebo (DeKosky 2008, GEM trial, JAMA) |
| Bacopa | Nine trials, at least 12 weeks | May help attention speed; authors want a larger trial (Kongkeaw 2014, Bacopa meta-analys.) |
| Phosphatidylserine | 78 adults, 100 mg or 300 mg a day for six months | No difference from placebo across the full group (Kato-Kataoka 2010, soy PS trial) |
| Acetyl-L-carnitine | 15 trials in mild to moderate dementia | Severity did not change, and routine use was not justified (NIH ODS, Carnitine) |
The ginkgo and carnitine trials looked at dementia, not everyday forgetfulness. Do not stretch them past that.
Do the study amounts match what is in a capsule?
Only if the bottle prints the amounts, and many do not. A trial result applies to the amount tested, not to a name on a label.
The bars below show the daily amounts used in studies. They are not advice, and they are not what any bottle holds.

See packsWhich of these are named for MemoPryl?
All four appear among six names tied to a sibling MemoPryl pack: phosphatidylserine, ginkgo, N-acetyl L-carnitine, St. John's wort, bacopa and L-glutamine.
That list is unconfirmed for the bottle you receive, and no Supplement Facts panel or amount is printed on any image we have. The two bottle images also disagree on count (30 or 60 capsules). Without amounts, no trial can be matched to the product.
No trial has tested MemoPryl itself. See the ingredient pages for each name.

What safety checks come before any ingredient?
Check your medicines first. Bleeding risk may rise with ginkgo (FDA, Mixing Meds and Supplements), and St. John's wort makes many prescription drugs weaker (NCCIH, St. John's Wort safety).
Stay on prescribed medicine, and check with your doctor or pharmacist before you begin a supplement. If memory worries you, a visit beats a trial of pills.

FAQ01
Questions people ask about MemoPryl
Which memory supplement has the best evidence?
None has strong proof. Bacopa has a meta-analysis suggesting faster attention, while ginkgo and carnitine trials in dementia were disappointing. Exercise, sleep and blood pressure care have firmer backing than any capsule.
Does a human study mean a supplement works?
No. A study can be small, short or run in a different group than you. The question is who was tested, at what amount, and whether the result was better than placebo.
Why do labels hide ingredient amounts?
Some products list a blend total instead of each amount. Without the numbers you cannot compare a bottle to any trial. Prefer labels that print every amount.
