L-Glutamine and the Brain: What Is Known
L-glutamine brain claims are thin. Glutamine is an amino acid the body makes and food supplies. Memorial Sloan Kettering does not describe it as a memory or cognitive supplement, and we found no memory trial for it. It is named on a sibling MemoPryl pack, with no amount printed.

What is L-glutamine?
L-glutamine is an amino acid. The body makes it and stores it, mainly in muscle and lung tissue, and food can supply it too (MSK, Glutamine).
Because the body makes it, a capsule is not filling a missing nutrient in most people. Our sources do not say that healthy adults lack it.
Eating protein foods also supplies amino acids, so a capsule is one source among many, not a special route to the brain.
It is named on a sibling MemoPryl pack, unconfirmed for the bottle you receive, and no amount is printed on any image we have.
Does L-glutamine help the brain or memory?
We found no evidence that it does. The Memorial Sloan Kettering page does not describe glutamine as a memory or cognitive supplement (MSK, Glutamine).
That page also says evidence is lacking to support glutamine supplements for increasing muscle mass and strength (MSK, Glutamine). So even the better-known uses are not well backed.
NCCIH's review of supplements for cognition calls the evidence for most supplements inconclusive, limited or inconsistent (NCCIH, Supplements and Cognition). Glutamine is not among the ones it covers.

What would the label need to show?
A Supplement Facts panel with the name and the amount of each ingredient. No image we have shows one.
No glutamine amount is cited by any source we use, so there is no studied range to compare.
- The ingredient name and form
- The amount in each capsule
- Capsules per serving, and servings per bottle
- Other ingredients and warnings
Every one of these lines is missing from the images we have.

See packsShould I take it for focus?
Ask your doctor or pharmacist first, and keep taking your prescribed medicine as directed. A supplement is not a way to wait on a memory worry.
Label claims such as "Supports Brain Energy*" carry an asterisk because FDA has not evaluated them, and supplement claims do not need FDA approval first (FDA, Structure/Function Claims). A claim on a bottle is not a result from a trial.
If memory or thinking has changed, see a doctor. Treat the glutamine name as a lead to check, not a reason to buy.

FAQ01
Questions people ask about MemoPryl
Is L-glutamine a nootropic?
Not by anything in our sources. Memorial Sloan Kettering does not describe it as a memory or cognitive supplement. Some sellers market it that way, but we found no trial to support the claim.
Can I get glutamine from food instead of capsules?
MSK says glutamine can come from food as well as being made by the body. Our sources give no list of foods or amounts, so ask a dietitian if you want specifics.
Why would a brain capsule include an amino acid?
The seller's notes do not say. Its label lines for energy and focus are marketing claims. A reason for the ingredient is not the same as evidence that it works, and no trial has tested MemoPryl.
