Fake supplement reviews: FTC rules and red flags
Fake supplement reviews are banned under an FTC rule announced August 14, 2024, which covers false and AI-written reviews, bought reviews and fake social media signals. You can still meet them. Check dates, bursts of praise, one-review accounts and claims that seem too good to be true.

Are fake supplement reviews illegal?
Yes. The FTC announced a rule on August 14, 2024 that bans fake or false reviews and testimonials, including AI-generated ones (FTC 2024, fake reviews rule).
The rule also bans paying for reviews with a set sentiment, undisclosed insider reviews, review suppression, and buying or selling fake social media signals. It lets the FTC seek civil penalties against knowing violators (FTC 2024, fake reviews rule).
A rule does not remove every fake, and a fake can look very ordinary. It gives you a reason to read each review as a claim, not as a fact.
How can you spot a fake supplement review?
Look at timing, the reviewer and the wording. The FTC lists several checks.
| Red flag | What to do |
|---|---|
| A burst of reviews in a short time | Check dates (FTC, Evaluate Online Reviews) |
| A reviewer with one review for one product | Open the profile (FTC, Evaluate Online Reviews) |
| Only glowing praise | Look for mixed views; rivals may post negatives too (FTC, Evaluate Online Reviews) |
| Rave reviews plus bold health claims | Treat as a warning sign (FDA, Hidden Ingredients) |
The FTC adds that you cannot always spot a fake by looking. Use a variety of sources, including trusted expert reviews (FTC, Evaluate Online Reviews).
Do reviews prove a supplement works?
No. The FTC says anecdotal consumer experiences are never sufficient to back claims about a health product (FTC, Health Products Guidance).
One buyer's good month tells you about that buyer. It cannot tell you what the capsule did.
A glowing story is not a trial. Memory changes also come and go, with sleep, stress and mood. A person who feels sharper after two weeks may be seeing normal ups and downs.
The better evidence is a randomized trial of the same ingredient at a stated amount. NCCIH calls the proof for most memory supplements inconclusive, limited or inconsistent (NCCIH, Supplements and Cognition).

Because no verified customer review exists for us to print. We show no star score, count, name or quote.
The review page has empty slots instead, with vendor photos labelled as supplied by the vendor. When real, verified reviews exist, they will be marked as such. Until then, rely on the label and on a clinician. Read what we can and cannot show.

FAQ01
Questions people ask about MemoPryl
Can an AI write a supplement review?
Yes, and the FTC rule covers it. Its 2024 rule bans AI-generated reviews and testimonials that misrepresent the writer's identity or experience. A real-sounding voice is not proof of a real buyer.
Where do I report a fake review?
You can report deceptive reviews to the FTC at its complaint site. Also tell the platform that carries the review. Keep screenshots with dates.
Are negative reviews always real?
No. The FTC notes fake reviews are not always glowing, because a competitor may post negative ones. Judge each review on its detail, date and reviewer history.
